About the Role
A Licensed Practical Nurse at Erlanger Medical Center provides direct and/or indirect care to patients within the Pediatric Sub-Specialty Clinics for Children's Medical Services, under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This role involves a team-based approach to care, focusing on coordinating patient care, supporting self-management and behavior change for patients and families, and participating in quality improvement processes.
The employee must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, assess patient data, and interpret information to meet each patient's specific needs based on their growth and development stage.
Responsibilities
- Assess and reassess patients, develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care.
- Administer pharmacological drugs as ordered, including understanding medication classifications, adverse effects, therapeutic actions, indications, drug interactions, onset, and duration.
- Perform procedures and operate equipment necessary for patient care.
- Schedule diagnostic testing and ensure proper documentation per unit standards.
- Provide age-appropriate care with knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.
- Demonstrate competency in patient assessment, pharmacology, lab values, interpersonal communication, and physician practices.
- Participate in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing (required).
- Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee.
- BLS certification completed prior to starting in the unit/department and maintained thereafter.
- Knowledge of general nursing principles, organizational policies, and current trends in healthcare.
Preferred Qualifications
- PALS certification.
- Previous pediatric experience.
