About the role
The role provides direct patient care utilizing the nursing process under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. It involves reviewing diagnostic test results, administering prescribed medications, therapies, and treatments, maintaining patient medical records, and collaborating with the Registered Nurse and multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Reviews diagnostic test results and reports abnormal results and changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse, physician, and appropriate healthcare team members in a timely manner.
- Collaborates with the Registered Nurse on development and implementation of the patient's plan of care.
- Affords assistance to physicians, Registered Nurse, and multidisciplinary team with data collection, planning, intervention, and evaluation of patient and family care to achieve desired outcomes.
- Implements components of the plan of care with the Licensed Practical Nurse scope of practice and competency to promote desired outcomes.
- Affords assistance with discharge planning and carrying out the patient's teaching plan under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
- Evaluates and maintains the environment to promote patient and healthcare team safety.
- Collaborates with the Registered Nurse and multidisciplinary team to advocate for the patient and supports the patient's psychological, ethical, spiritual, and cultural needs.
- Provides compassionate basic nursing care; maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Communicates effectively and works collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team. Promotes team building to foster a positive work environment.
- Effectively communicates with the multidisciplinary team members, patients, and families to achieve desired team goals.
- Sets out to seek appropriate resources to increase practice knowledge.
- Participates on unit-based committees and regularly attends unit staff meetings and unit-based educational offerings.
- Works with team members to achieve maximum productivity.
- Demonstrates willingness to assist others.
- Demonstrates knowledge of quality improvement initiatives and participates in performance improvement activities.
- Participates in performance improvement initiatives.
- Performs other duties assigned; willing to adapt to changing department demands.

- Maintains competencies within Licensed Practical Nursing Standards and seeks opportunities to develop professionally.
- Affords assistance with the orientation of new employees under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

- Maintains own Employee Continuing Education Record and outlines core and specialty competencies relevant to area of practice.
Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical School of Nursing Program.
- Experience: Less than one year related experience.

- Proficient in English, verbal and written communication skills; computer skills.
