Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage all inquires with regards to information, referral, and/or possible admission
- Congduct pre-admission screenings of potential clients for detoxification services, schedule detoxification admissions according to Harbor Light admission criteria
- Congduct client admissions/discharges to detoxification and residential programs, including completion of all required medical documents
- Provide general health care of clients which includes but is not necessarily limited to: a) administering and recording medications as prescribed by attending physicians, b) performing vital sign checks and documenting results
- Take appropriate action as directed by attending physician to ensure clients' medical stability and in cases of emergency facilitate assistance per Harbor Light protocol
- Assist Medical Director or designate in the provision of medical services
- Work with the treatment team to maintain order, discipline, and a substance-free environment
- Attend all required staff meetings; training sessions, seminars and/or workshops for staff development
- Maintain records, charts, logs and all other pertinent data for the medical unit on a daily basis
Qualifications
- Possess working knowledge of Occupational, Safety, and Health Administration standards and Universal Precautions
- Possess good communication skills
- TB Test and police clearance required
- Authorization to work within The United States
- Education/Experience: Experience in substance abuse preferred
- Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications and email; Experience with Electronic Medical Records preferred
- Reasoning Ability: Understand and work within The Salvation Army and Harbor Light Mission Statements; Possess an excellent working knowledge of The Harbor Light Policies and Procedures
- Certificates and Licenses: Must possess one of the following Michigan licenses: Registered Nurse, Practical Nurse, EMT, or Paramedic
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift 25 pounds; frequent walking, bending, standing, and sitting for long periods of time; capability to visually evaluate and observe people and inspect packages and events; the ability to hear and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
- Work Environment: Exposure to bloodborne pathogens and biohazards
