Job Objectives
Responsibilities
- Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Affords patient/family health education.
- Assesses and identifies the patient's physiological and psycho-social problems and needs.
- Formulates/initiates nursing care plan which is consistent with the medical plan and accepted current standards of care and practice.
- Demonstrates principles of infection control; collaborates with infection control nurse to ensure safety of patients, visitors and personnel.
- Communicates patient's progress to team leader and advises team leader of patient situations which may require further assessment and/or intervention.
- Participates in the orientation of new personnel.
- Performs other indirect care duties as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Other duties as assigned.
Health/Safety/Competence
- Cannot pose a direct threat to health or safety of self or others.
- Must provide safe, efficient, competent care to customer or patient population assigned.
- Must demonstrate competency in the unit specific functions described in the performance continuum, skills lists and/or standards.
Education/Knowledge/Skills
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
- Must have knowledge of: General nursing theory and practice; Hospital policies and procedures; Infection control; Fire and Safety regulations.
- For staff involved in the care of age-specific groups, knowledge of the bio-psychosocial needs of adult, geriatric and pediatric patients is essential.
- Special knowledge is required in growth and development needs of pediatric/geriatric patients where applicable.
- Previous experience in department specialty is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications
- Must be currently licensed by the Tennessee Board of Nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
- Must be currently certified in the life support program(s) specific to unit(s) worked (CPR, ACLS, NALS) or must be recertified during orientation period.
