Responsibilities
- Dispense medications and treatments as ordered by the physician of record, verifying correct dosage, strength, labeling, and supply adequacy.
- Maintain accurate records of medications and treatments administered.
- Document all pertinent patient condition information in nurse’s notes.
- Assign and oversee nursing care tasks, ensuring assignments are completed.
- Instruct and supervise patient care as needed.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment for patients and staff, including orientation to the nursing home’s fire and emergency plan.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current registration with the State Board of Examiners.
- Current Health Card.
- Experience in geriatrics is helpful, but an interest in Geriatric Nursing is essential.
- Comprehensive knowledge of general nursing theory and practice, including biological, physical, social, and medical sciences.
- Ability to instruct auxiliary personnel and demonstrate patient care techniques.
- Familiarity with the organization, functions of all departments, and policies/procedures of the Nursing Home.
Skills
- Good physical and mental health, with finger and hand dexterity for handling instruments and equipment.
- Visual and aural acuity to detect changes in patient conditions.
- Understanding and tact in dealing with geriatric patients and their families.
- Ability to competently inform the physician of record about patient conditions.
- Strong memory for details and initiative in assessing patient needs.
- Judgment in determining patient care requirements.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with staff.
Working Environment
- Works in well-lighted and ventilated rooms.
- Subject to minor cuts from instruments and burns from sterilizing equipment.
- May be exposed to patients with communicable diseases.
- Possibility of strains from moving patients or equipment, or injury from irrational patients.
License/Certification
- LVN (Preferred)

Supervision
Reports to the Nurse Administrator.
