About the Role
Perform preparation of cost estimates for Beacon low voltage construction projects, solutions, or services to determine pricing. The focus is on projects in Beacon's West region but is not limited to this area. This role mitigates risk for Beacon in bid projects and serves as the main communication bridge between sales and operations for smooth transitions from proposed to accepted projects.
Responsibilities
- Analyze information from site walks and RFP documents to generate detailed project expenses, including materials, labor, and other factors.
- Provide the sales team with detailed proposals to send to customers on time.
- Predict the expense of future projects by analyzing monetary costs and other factors.
- Break down all project-related expenses, including materials, labor, and other resources.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Perform onsite investigations before, during, and after a project.
- Interpret fire codes and standards (such as NFPA 72, NEC, and local building codes) to ensure proposed life-safety systems are compliant.
- Work with engineers to interpret blueprints or conceptual drawings.
- Calculate labor hours necessary to complete a project.
- Prepare clear proposals, manage multiple deadlines, and submit requests for information (RFIs) when project scopes are unclear.
- Position yourself as a consultant to both internal and external customers.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Beacon policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Review drawings with the Project Management team and highlight areas of concern.
- Demonstrate understanding of Beacon projects and focus on continued skill development.
- Maintain professionalism in appearance and conduct, including punctuality.
- Perform leadership duties as assigned.
- Prioritize customer relations and satisfaction, demonstrating courtesy and respect.
- Build strong win-win relationships with other departments within Beacon.
- Go the extra mile to ensure competitive bids and proposals, including arriving early or staying late as needed.
- Double-check all critical work deliverables and minimize mistakes.
- Develop creative solutions to problems and identify ways to deliver additional profit.
- Travel overnight as necessary, with a 20-30% travel requirement.
Requirements
- Minimum three years of experience in low voltage construction, estimating, or project budgeting, specifically in:
- Structured Cabling / Voice and Data
- Access Control
- Video Surveillance
- Paging
- Nurse Call
- Infant Protection
- Fire Alarm (Edwards Fire)
- Minimum one year of experience estimating and/or installing systems such as:
- Edwards Fire
- Rauland-Borg
- Hugs
- Lenel
- Open Options
- Milestone
- Software House
- Hirsch systems
- Direct familiarity with major life-safety hardware platforms, specifically Edwards/EST systems.
- High School Diploma or approved equivalent.
- NICET Level 1 or higher certification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
- Self-motivated, punctual, and able to manage multiple tasks with excellent follow-up skills.
- Strong team player with the ability to communicate effectively in difficult situations.
- Mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people and work situations.
- Capability to handle difficult situations and be accountable for project outcomes.
Skills

Work Environment
- Hybrid role after the initial onboarding phase, requiring in-office presence three times a week (one day must be Monday or Friday).
- Work environments include offices, medical facilities, educational facilities, commercial facilities, customer sites under construction, renovation, or warehouse spaces.
- Job sites may have varying environmental factors such as noise, dust, and temperature changes.
- Requires prolonged sitting, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for data input.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to fifty pounds.
- Must maintain a clear background check to satisfy customer job site badging requirements.
- Must comply with all vaccinations and screening tests required for customer jobsite badging protocol.
- Maintain a clear drug and alcohol screening protocol.
Pay
Annual salary range for this role is $100,000.00 - $120,000.00, commensurate with relevant education, related experience, and other factors.
