Low Voltage Lead Technician - Charleston

About the role

The Technician 3 plays a crucial role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of low voltage systems. They work closely with a team of up to six technicians, under the guidance of a Tech Superintendent when necessary. The position requires a high level of leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to train and supervise others.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams of 4-6 team members to install, repair, terminate, certify, and troubleshoot devices and cabling of low voltage systems.
  • Absorb responsibilities of a Site Superintendent when needed.
  • Install, repair, terminate, certify, and label cabling for Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security, Cameras (CCTV), and Paging systems.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and identifying faults with Copper, Fiber, Audio/Visual (AV), Cameras, and Access Control/Security systems.
  • Manage inventory of materials and maintain materials of assigned sites.
  • Plan and communicate task schedules and goals to team members.
  • Install and configure Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems into Racks or Enclosures.
  • Understand and identify differences between Multi-Mode and Single-Mode fiber.
  • Terminate data jacks and mod plugs; properly feed cable, fiber, and wires.
  • Operate and maintain test equipment, including interpreting copper and fiber test results.
  • Keep detailed records of device and cabling locations.
  • Work independently to determine and install pathways.
  • Adhere to BICSI, ANSI, TIA standards and NEC codes for Low Voltage Installations.
  • Perform cross-connect or patch-in copper or fiber systems as designed.
  • Secure and return tools and materials to designated areas after use.

Requirements

  • 4 years of verified experience with low voltage systems and cabling.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to plan project workflows with an understanding of design and task efficiency.
  • Experience with Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security, Cameras (CCTV), and Paging systems.
  • Experience installing devices for Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security, Access Points (Wi-Fi), Cameras (CCTV), and Paging systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting Copper, Fiber, AV, Cameras, and Access Control/Security systems.
  • Manufacturer certification in Unicam fiber terminations and Mini-Com terminations.
  • Experience with build-out of MDF, IDF, Enclosures, Ladder Tray, Basket, and installing 2-4 post racks.
  • Experience with punch-down, routing, labeling, and dressing all cabling coming into Racks or Enclosures correctly and accurately.
  • Experience with installing Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems and equipment into Racks or Enclosures.
  • Ability to identify differences between Multi-Mode and Single-Mode fiber.
  • Ability to terminate data jacks and mod plugs; and properly feed cable, fiber, and/or wires.
  • Experience using, operating, and maintaining test equipment, and interpreting copper and fiber test results.
  • Ability to learn and comprehend Fluke testing software, COINS, Box, Microsoft Office, and related software programs.
  • Knowledge of BICSI, ANSI, TIA standards and NEC codes for Low Voltage installations.
  • Ability to read a measuring tape to 1/16 of an inch.
  • Personal hand tools provided within 30 days of employment.
  • A basic understanding of customer relationships and the concept of customer satisfaction.
  • Able to use hand and power tools safely and cautiously.
  • Able to read blueprints, schematics, drawing details, wire maps, and other drawings, including understanding specifications of IDF and data closet enclosures.
  • Physical requirements of the position met.
  • Able to travel to meet customer objectives when needed.
