Low Latency Network Engineer - LCT Infrastructure
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Network Engineer to join our latency-critical trading Infrastructure team. As part of a global follow-the-sun team of network engineers in North America, EMEA, and APAC, the Network Engineer focuses on architecture, design, development, deployment, and support of Millennium’s high-performance global networks with extreme uptime requirements utilizing cutting-edge network technologies. This role will focus on all aspects of networking including datacenters, market data, co-lo, and proximity colocation sites.
Responsibilities
- Senior engineering role with a focus on low-latency network technologies.
- Balanced mix of project and operations across the low-latency trading environment with Market Data, Trading, and co-lo design.
- Serves as the innovation lead to research and bring new network technologies into the firm, including RF technologies, low-latency transport, routing/switching, and compute technologies.
- Owns and project-manages global network projects from start to finish, including requirement gathering, design, cost, implementation, and deployment.
- Coordinates installation, tests, and troubleshoots our low-latency data network platforms and transmission facilities (dark and lit fiber services, Gigabit Ethernet Services, etc.).
- Configures, installs, maintains, and provides support for critical software and hardware of the network components.
- Researches, prices out, and implements data circuits.
- Designs and implements high-availability, low-latency Market Data networks.
- Deploys, supports, and troubleshoots the network Infrastructure; documents the IT Infrastructure, policies, and procedures; and performs general user support.
- Participates in after-hours work and an on-call rotation.
- Assists with maintaining system applications using traffic and capacity monitoring tools to track errors and keep the network performing optimally.
Requirements
- Expert in low-latency network technologies – Multicast (IGMP, PIM), L2/L3, WAN design, expert in routing (BGP, OSPF).
- Strong experience with PCAP capture and high-accuracy timestamping of capture packets with PTP/PPS.
- Experience working with both lit and dark fiber, and muxing.
- 5+ years of experience in a network engineering, operations, and support function.
- Experience with Arista, Cisco, and L1 switches. Knowledge of FPGA and high-performance computer technology is a plus.
- Proven ability to work hands-on and take on strong technical ownership capability in a global organization.
- Expert knowledge and troubleshooting of IP networking, TCP/IP.
- Experience with Python and bash. Knowledge of scripting to automate tasks.
- Strong Linux shell experience.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability operating in a fast-paced environment.
- Passion for providing a high level of service and support to internal customers.
Pay
The estimated base salary range for this position is $175,000 to $250,000, specific to New York and may change in the future. Millennium pays a total compensation package which includes a base salary, discretionary performance bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package. When finalizing an offer, we take into consideration an individual’s experience level and the qualifications they bring to the role to formulate a competitive total compensation package.
