About the role
We are seeking an experienced Lowboy Driver with a strong background in heavy haul transportation, specifically the safe loading, securing, and transport of drilling equipment and other oversized construction or utility-related machinery.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailer combinations with lowboy and specialized heavy haul trailers.
- Transport drilling rigs, drilling support equipment, construction machinery, and other oversized loads to various job sites.
- Perform proper loading, unloading, securement, and inspection of equipment in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies.
- Conduct pre-trip, post-trip, and routine vehicle inspections and complete all required documentation.
- Obtain and comply with oversize/overweight permits and route restrictions as required.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, project managers, and field personnel regarding delivery schedules and jobsite requirements.
- Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, and transportation records.
- Follow all federal, state, and local transportation laws and safety regulations.
- Aid with minor maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment as needed.
- Represent the company professionally while interacting with customers, vendors, and the public.
Qualifications
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Minimum 5 years of experience operating lowboy trailers and transporting heavy equipment.
- Experience hauling oversized and overweight loads.
- Thorough knowledge of DOT regulations, load securement requirements, and permitting processes.
- Clean driving record with a strong commitment to safety.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout Florida and occasionally to neighboring states.
- Ability to safely load, unload, and secure various types of drilling and heavy construction equipment.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends, as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting contract negotiations and contract lifecycle management.
- Experience with vendor management and procurement processes.
- Knowledge of insurance requirements, certificates of insurance, and risk management practices.
- Additional industry certifications related to contract administration, project management, or business administration.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb, kneel, crouch, bend, and secure loads.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating commercial vehicles.
