Loss Control Inspector Trainee - Gaylord, Michigan
About the role
The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company is seeking an Inspector to join our Engineering Team based in Gaylord, Michigan.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspections to include low to medium complexity risk exposures, covering commercial, industrial, and non-manufacturing locations for jurisdictional certification, loss prevention, risk assessment, OnSights, and claims investigations.
- Utilize engineering expertise for fee service engineering inspections.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years’ experience with boilers, UPV, industrial, mechanical, and electrical equipment
- National Board Commission required
- Successful completion of Company required training
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering (may substitute for practical experience)
- Planning and organizational skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and adaptability
- Interpersonal skills
- Communicates effectively (both verbally and written)
- Problem-solving skills
- Computer technology skills including the Microsoft Office Suite
Physical Requirements
- Routine movement about a site facility
- Ability to crawl through 11” X 15” openings into confined spaces
- Enter and function in very tight confined spaces
- Climb vertical ladders and several stories of stairs
- Climb and function at heights of at least 30 feet, and up to eight (8) to ten (10) stories
- Perform bending, stretching, and twisting motions
- Withstand temperature variations of up to 70 degrees
- Walk 3-5 miles
- Stand for long periods of time (50% of the time)
- Lift own body weight while hanging or entering a confined space with associated safety equipment
- Lift equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Visual acuity of 20/20 (natural or corrected) and identify colors
- Hear (corrected) the sounds of equipment operation
