Long-Term Substitute Teacher - Elementary - Kindergarten

About the role

The Downingtown Area School District is seeking a long-term substitute teacher for the first semester of the 2026-2027 school year. The position is available for certified elementary teachers, specifically for Grades PK-4.

Responsibilities

• Present clear, high quality, flexible, and appropriate content knowledge to students through planning and preparation
• Provide ongoing communication and engaging instructional delivery in a safe and supportive classroom environment
• Flex and vary hours to accommodate needs of students, parents, and other teachers
• Interface diplomatically with teachers, administrators, parents, students, and outside organizations
• Manage classrooms effectively and communicate accurately with others
• Provide good judgment, planning, and human relations skills, and work under periods of stress

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited college or university
• Hold a proper Pennsylvania certification for the position
• Demonstrate knowledge in the area of assignment
• Show a positive attitude toward the teaching profession, service to the district, and importance and purpose of the education program
• Be proficient in using current technology for individual or group demonstration or communication
• Have effective interpersonal skills
• Exhibit excellent classroom management skills
• Display effective communication skills
• Have the ability to provide good judgment, planning, and human relations skills, and work under periods of stress due to the level of the position responsibility

Pay

Salary 2026-2027 School Year Placement upon salary scale is dependent upon education and years of teaching service. Please click on the link to the DAEA Agreement - 2025-2030 and refer to Appendix B for the 2026-2027 Salary Schedule.

Schedule

7.5 hours per day based upon district-approved calendar

Up to 191 days per year, plus up to 3 days of orientation for professional employees during first year of employment - prorated for LTS roles
