Position Summary
In the absence of the classroom teacher, the Long-Term Substitute provides instruction, encourages student progress, and manages the learning environment. This position ensures continuity of learning by maintaining established routines, delivering engaging lessons, and fostering a safe and positive classroom atmosphere.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain established routines and procedures of the assigned school and classroom
- Create and deliver lesson plans or follow those outlined by the absent teacher
- Implement instructional strategies that promote quality academic and social development
- Maintain discipline and classroom control in accordance with district policies
- Create a learning environment conducive to growth, maturity, and student interests
- Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations
- Demonstrate professional practices in teaching and classroom management
- Model correct use of oral and written language
- Protect school records, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Report student injuries, illnesses, accidents, and disciplinary issues promptly
- Assign reasonable tasks and homework to support learning goals
- Remain at school during the entire day unless excused by administration
- Maintain punctuality, reliability, and professional appearance
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or designated representative

Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Massachusetts Licensure preferred
- Proficiency in English (oral and written)
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with school staff and administration
- Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred
Pay
$285 per diem
Reports to: Principal • Location: Leahy Elementary School
