About the role

The Maumee Valley Country Day School seeks a dynamic and experienced 6th Grade Classroom Teacher with expertise in Language Arts and Social Studies. This position is open until filled and will commence on November 23, 2026, with an anticipated end date of March 12, 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver differentiated instruction
  • Implement the Writing Workshop approach to enhance student writing development
  • Utilize a Balanced Reading format to enrich students' reading experiences
  • Foster a growth mindset among students
  • Collaborate on and teach social studies units
  • Teach advisory lessons focusing on geography, SEL, and human growth and development
  • Conduct reading and writing conferences to provide personalized feedback and support
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and implement rigorous reading and writing instruction
  • Engage students in rigorous and exciting learning experiences
  • Show a passion for educational research and practice
  • Incorporate parental involvement and establish strong home-school communication

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education specializing in language arts and social studies
  • Possession of an Ohio Permanent Non-Tax certificate, Substitute Multi-Age PK-12 License, or professional teaching license (secured within the first six months of employment)
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience in language arts and social studies
  • Proven track record of assisting students in achieving high academic standards

Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Passion for educational research and practice
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills

Skills

  • Ability to implement backwards design
  • Understanding of learning objectives and how to plan instruction accordingly
  • Experience with formative assessment strategies
