Special Education Social Worker

The Westbrook School Department is seeking a Substitute Special Education Social Worker for two of our schools. The position will involve working with K-8 students to help them resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their school adjustment and enjoyment of educational benefits. The individual will be responsible for completing State of Maine paperwork and meeting timelines.

About the Role

As part of our special education team, the therapist will contribute to a collaborative and supportive environment. Westbrook School District Special Services Department provides student-centered instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students from kindergarten through high school. Programs include literacy, numeracy, art, music, STEAM, physical education, and library classes, with technology integration across subjects and settings. The department also offers specialized programs like Multilingual, Special Education, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and Gifted and Talented services. Staff collaborate to support various diverse learners, and Professional Learning Communities meet weekly to study best practices and improve teaching skills. Westbrook Middle School is a dynamic middle school in a growing, multicultural community in southern Maine, committed to providing an equitable and rigorous educational experience for all students.

Responsibilities

• Work with K-8 students to address personal, emotional, and social issues affecting their school performance and well-being.
• Complete State of Maine paperwork and meet required timelines.
• Contribute to a collaborative and supportive special education team.

Requirements

• Licensed by the State of Maine Social Work Registration Board (LCSW or equivalent).

Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in special education and social work.

Skills

Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively, and proficiency in using technology to support student learning.
