About the role

The Dayton Early College Academy (DECA) is a charter school network serving grades K-12 in Dayton, Ohio. DECA focuses on preparing students for college and beyond, with a particular emphasis on students from the city of Dayton who are often first-generation college attendees.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a positive role model for students
  • Achieve academic, social, and personal goals for students
  • Assess student strengths and needs
  • Develop meaningful relationships with students and their families
  • Be available for education-related purposes outside of regular hours
  • Implement DECA High's mission and goals
  • Plan and implement a program of instruction tailored to each student's needs
  • Report student progress through quarterly reports, phone calls, and weekly meetings
  • Attend faculty meetings and staff development sessions
  • Facilitate additional academic, social, and health services for students
  • Mediate student conflicts
  • Maintain accurate records on each student
  • Employ various educational techniques to support student growth
  • Collaborate with the school team on academic and social intervention strategies
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal

Requirements

  • Valid Ohio teaching license for assigned grade and/or subjects, or Ohio Substitute Teaching License
  • Prior relevant experience preferred
  • Effective interpersonal skills with children and adults
  • A broad range of interests and experience with a passion for learning
  • Knowledge of state and national academic content standards and IDEA rules and procedures
  • Basic knowledge in all core content areas
  • Knowledge of pedagogical theories, perspectives, and developments
  • Sound classroom management skills
  • Ability to improvise and work through uncertainties
  • Experience with technology-integration in teaching and learning
  • Effectiveness in an interdisciplinary, teamed environment
  • Collegiality and eagerness to participate in student-centered school activities
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • Leadership skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills

Schedule
