Position Summary
The Logistics Manager is a key operational role supporting DCSL's growing logistics function. Specializing in specialized freight movements, this role coordinates carriers, owns the permitting process, and manages dispatch operations.
Core Responsibilities
- Dispatch & Shipment Coordination
- Dispatch drivers and trucks throughout the day, managing routes, schedules, and load assignments.
- Cook up freight movements including LTL, FTL, oversize/overweight (OS/OW) freight, permitted and dedicated loads, oversized dimensional shipments, heavy haul, towing, and specialized equipment moves.
- Coordinate delivery schedules for critical data center power infrastructure — including generators, air handling units, switchboards, PDUs, STS, transformers, busway, and circuit breakers — supporting large-scale, phased customer deployments.
- Communicate in real time with carriers, drivers, customers, project managers, and supervisors to keep operations on track.
- Coordinate transportation schedules and respond to customer requests with urgency and professionalism.
- Troubleshoot scheduling conflicts, route changes, and logistical issues as they arise throughout the day.
- Aid with oversized and overweight load permitting as needed.
Documentation & Systems
- Enter dispatch and billing details accurately into TMS and other operational platforms.
- Prepare and review shipping documentation including BOLs, packing lists, delivery confirmations, and driver paperwork.
- Review driver paperwork for accuracy and completeness before processing.
- Maintain accurate records in the TMS and/or WMS to ensure data integrity across logistics operations.
- Aid in maintaining audit-ready documentation for all freight movements.
Compliance & Safety
- Support compliance with DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and applicable transportation law.
- Aid with hazmat documentation and handling requirements as applicable.
- Help ensure driver hours, permits, and load documentation meet regulatory standards.
Carrier & Vendor Communication
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for carrier and 3PL partners, escalating service issues as needed.
- Obtain freight quotes and support rate comparison as directed by logistics leadership.
- Support carrier, freight forwarder, and 3PL contract negotiation — including freight rates and service-level agreements — and monitor freight spend to surface cost-reduction opportunities while maintaining service levels.
- Aid in monitoring carrier performance against defined KPIs and SLAs.
Cross-Functional Support
- Partner with warehouse operations to align freight schedules with inbound and outbound workflows.
- Support the sales and project management teams with logistics planning for client launches and time-sensitive deployments.
- Communicate proactively with internal teams on delays, exceptions, or changes to freight timelines.
- Aid Finance with freight invoice review, discrepancy resolution, and spend reporting as needed.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain logistics tracking dashboards and assist in compiling KPI reports for leadership review.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and surface improvement opportunities to the VP of Integrated Services.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for transportation and delivery exceptions, and develop contingency plans for transportation disruptions and supply-chain risk.
- Support implementation of new systems, tools, or processes as the logistics function scales.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop logistics coordinators.
- Foster a culture of accountability, urgency, and continuous improvement on the logistics team.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive logistics or supply chain experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record building or significantly scaling a logistics function — not just inheriting one.
- Deep knowledge of domestic and OS/OW freight — LTL, FTL, final mile, oversized dimensional shipments, heavy haul — and 3PL management.
- Hands-on experience implementing or optimizing TMS and/or WMS platforms.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to build reporting frameworks and make data-driven operational decisions.
- Experience managing carrier and vendor relationships, including contract negotiation.
- Working knowledge of DOT, hazmat, and customs compliance requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or related field — or equivalent experience.
- Willingness to help in other areas outside of core competencies.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as operational needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with heavy haul, oversized/overweight permitting, or specialized equipment moves.
- Familiarity with FMCSA regulations and DOT compliance requirements.
- Exposure to international freight documentation and customs requirements.
- Experience in data center, warehousing, or technology logistics environments.
- APICS or similar supply chain certification (or active pursuit).
