Description
Responsible for coordinating and managing daily transportation operations to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and timely freight movement. This role serves as the primary point of contact between carriers, suppliers, customers, and internal departments while maintaining compliance with transportation regulations and company standards.
Requirements
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cooking and scheduling inbound and outbound freight shipments to ensure timely pickups and deliveries.
- Negotiating freight rates and securing transportation capacity with carriers, brokers, and load boards.
- Monitoring shipment status and proactively communicating updates, delays, and resolutions to customers, carriers, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with shippers, carriers, brokers, and transportation partners.
- Providing exceptional customer service by responding promptly and professionally to inquiries, concerns, and transportation issues.
- Collaborating closely with Alsum Farms & Produce Buyers and Sales teams to support transportation needs and ensure seamless product movement.
- Utilizing transportation management systems (TMS), ERP systems, load boards, and related technology to manage freight operations, track shipments, and improve efficiency.
- Scheduling and coordinating all outbound delivery appointments for national customer orders, ensuring timely delivery compliance and effective communication with carriers, warehouses, and customers.
- Maintaining and updating company spreadsheets, Google Docs, and shipping and loading schedules.
- Tracking carrier and driver performance to ensure on-time service and compliance with company expectations.
- Staying informed on transportation market trends, freight rates, DOT regulations, and industry best practices.
- Aiding with order completion, freight billing support, and transportation-related documentation.
- Supporting Transport Office and Fleet operations as needed.
- Performing other related duties as necessary or assigned
- EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in logistics, transportation coordination, dispatching, supply chain, or freight brokerage preferred.
- Experience in produce, agriculture, or refrigerated transportation is a plus.
- REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and manage competing deadlines effectively.

- Sense of urgency while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and transportation management software.
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations, freight documentation, and transportation compliance requirements.
- Ability to learn ERP systems and integrated transportation/load board platforms quickly.
- Strong customer service and relationship management skills.
- WORK SCHEDULE:
- This is a Full-Time, in office position based in Friesland, Wisconsin.
- Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm, flexible starting time.
- Required flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including rotating on-call or weekend support
- PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.
