Logistics Analyst- Rail
Purpose of Job
The Job Analyst position at Sasol is responsible for coordinating outbound and inbound shipments from Sasol plants and explant locations. The role involves ensuring logistics assets are in place to meet both internal and external needs. This includes providing guidance and recommendations to internal Sasol groups on optimizing loading/unloading and shipments to minimize infrastructure and logistics asset constraints.
Key Accountabilities
- Accurately review and prepare Logistics invoices for payment, including railcar lease rental, railcar storage, and maintenance charges.
- Work with 3PL to review and approve railcar freight assessorial charges for accuracy and dispute those with errors.
- Approve invoices for payment after disputes have been resolved.
- Track and communicate railcars to all impacted parties, working closely with RRs and 3PL to troubleshoot billing issues.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders like Customer Service, Strategic Sourcing, IPL, and Plant Logistics to meet loading/unloading plant/explant schedules and customer shipment needs.
- Maintain accurate railcar information in SAP and ensure regulatory and operating requirements for railcar maintenance are met.
- Support the Finance/Accounting/CS team during month-end/year-end closing processes.
- Ensure freight cost information in SAP reflects actual supply chain costs.
- Secure freight rates for new customers and create routes in SAP for shipments meeting forecasted demand.
- Maintain freight data in SAP and update as needed.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with internal stakeholders and communicate daily to meet loading/unloading schedules and customer shipment needs.
- Operate in compliance with the Quality Management System requirements.
- Utilize a proactive/reactive approach to prevent, correct, and inform Customer Service Representatives on events that could lead to non-conformances.
Required Personal and Professional Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Working knowledge of SAP preferred
- Effective communication skills (oral and written)
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong analytical background with problem-solving abilities
- Efficient and detail-oriented when reviewing and analyzing service provider charges
- Ability to handle a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment
- Collaborative with internal stakeholders (Finance, Customer Service) and service providers to resolve transportation issues
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent with 5+ years of customer service and transportation experience
- Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years of customer service and transportation experience
