A temporary locum tenens assignment lasting 26 weeks at an acute-care hospital in Burlington, VT.

About the role

This position involves diagnosing and treating digestive-system disorders in adults (and potentially children, depending on the specific assignment). The shift schedule is a standard 5-day, 10-hour workweek (07:00–17:30) with both scheduled and on-call coverage required.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of digestive-system disorders.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as endoscopies, X-rays, CT scans, and blood tests.
  • Perform endoscopic procedures to diagnose and treat digestive conditions (where applicable).
  • Develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Manage chronic digestive conditions and provide ongoing patient care.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, radiologists, and other specialists to ensure coordinated care.
  • Educate patients on digestive health and disease prevention.
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records for all patients.
  • Stay current on the latest advancements in gastroenterology through continuing education.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Residency training in internal medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Fellowship training in gastroenterology (preferred, depending on the position).
  • Board certification in gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the AOA.
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in Vermont.
  • At least one year of experience providing gastroenterology care in a clinical or hospital setting (preferred).

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of gastroenterology principles and practices, including diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of digestive diseases.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients and collaborate with healthcare teams.
  • Technical proficiency in performing endoscopic procedures (if applicable).
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for endoscopic procedures.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and adaptability to changing patient conditions.
  • Time management and organizational skills to manage patient workload effectively.

Pay

$375/hour – $425/hour.
