The Locator, under the direction of a company supervisor, performs visual inspection of predefined construction areas, reads and interprets utility maps to determine the presence of underground utilities, and uses special electronic equipment to detect and locate utilities.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret utility maps / prints to identify the type and size of underground utilities
- Operate different electronic detection equipment, to locate and mark underground facilities within prescribed accuracy limits
- Use assigned communication equipment to effectively communicate with excavators, utility reps, and company personnel, regarding underground facilities
- Perform light excavation with a shovel, to expose buried utilities when necessary
- Provide accurate documentation and or sketches related to all locates completed
- Receive and respond to excavation notices during normal and after hours in accordance with established time requirements
- Use a computer or other device to receive, document and close out excavation notices
- Respond to emergency calls between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
- Work weekends, night work and/or overnight travel as needed
- Operate company vehicles in a safe manner and maintain a professional appearance
- Perform manhole entry using assigned equipment and safety devices
Requirements
- At least 18 years old
- Authorized to work in the United States for this company
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- A valid standard Driver's License or Class A Commercial Driver's License
- An MVR record that is deemed acceptable by the company
- Proficient in the use of hand tools and equipment (shovels, screw drivers, wrenches, and ped keys etc.)
- Able to maintain a safe work environment
- Able to work in all weather conditions
Additional Requirements
- Must be able to pass a background check and company drug screening
- Must be able to attend and pass all company required training as needed
- May be required to work over-time; after hours; on weekends or be on-call as work is needed
- May be required to drive company vehicles/operate company equipment
- May be required to travel in state as necessary to meet business and job requirements
- Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position
Physical & Safety Requirements
- Stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reach with hands and arms to spaces both high and low
- Standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding or stooping a moderate amount of time while on shift
- The noise level in the work environment for this position is moderate
- Exposed to outside weather conditions which can include but is not limited to: extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet and dust; adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog
- Lift up to 50lbs
- Exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens
- Exposed to toxic or corrosive chemicals as well as moving machinery parts and pieces
Pay
The Locator I hourly wage range is $25.00 - $28.00, depending on experience.
