Description

General Purpose
Responsible for accurately locating underground water and wastewater utility lines.

Examples of Duties

• Assists in locating water and wastewater lines prior to excavation
• Responds to complaints regarding water leaks, low water pressure, water quality issues, and / or no water
• Responds to complaints regarding wastewater backups, stoppages, and / or overflows
• Makes contact with residents and business owners in area where water / wastewater services may be interrupted and provides an explanation as well as an estimated time frame when services may be restored
• Affixes contact with equipment and tools in proper working order, performs routine cleaning and maintenance as directed
• Reports equipment and tool defects to supervisor
• Performs required labor involved in the construction and maintenance of water and wastewater lines as part of a crew, to include street maintenance, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, service, meter and pipe repairs
• Reads water meters as needed
• Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans, and flushes water and sewer mains
• Installs fire hydrants and other appendages
• Serves water supply, sewer lift stations, and other related pumps
• Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the water, sewer, and street department
• Mows grass, trims hedges, and cuts weeds as needed
• Picks up trash and litter as needed
• May assist with repairs and installation of street signage as needed
• Removes and replaces water meters

Typical Qualifications

• Education and Experience:
• (A) Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
• (B) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• (A) Some knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction, and repair activities.
• (B) Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.
• (C) Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the general public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Supplemental Information

• Special Requirements:
• Valid Oklahoma State Driver's License, or the ability to obtain, prior to date of hire.
• Level D Water and Wastewater State Certification, or the ability to obtain as required.
