About the role
Locate Technicians are responsible for accurately locating underground facilities including, but not limited to, telephone communication lines, electric power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines. This position is a key component to ensure compliance with client and state requirements.
Responsibilities
- Observe, locate, mark, and document underground and exposed utility locations.
- Work independently or in a team environment, working under assigned supervisors.
- Perform locates and emergency/on-call locates during regular, overtime, and holiday hours as necessary to meet customer needs.
- Communicate with management team, contractors, and utility customers to ensure a damage-free environment.
- Interpret job order tickets, blueprints, and maps to efficiently route and perform duties.
- Use multiple methods to locate underground facilities using a transmitter and hooking up to buried facilities, pedestals, etc.
- Work in and walk over all types of terrain in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, and rural areas in various weather conditions.
- Interact with customers, co-employees, and third parties in a professional manner.
- Use technology and tools necessary for the job.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)
- State issued driver's license
- Ability to problem solve
- Read, interpret, and decipher multiple types of prints
- Vacuum truck experience
- Able to lift over 50 lbs
- Able to walk/stand for multiple hours a day
- Excellent communication skills
- Pass a Background screening (no violations within the last 5 years)
- Pass a DOT drug test
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalency (GED)
- Computer skills: 1 year (Preferred)
- Utility Locating: 1 year (Preferred)
- Driver's License (Required)
