Local Driver (Class A)

About the Role

We are seeking a local driver for our 5618 N. David Ave. Lubbock, TX 79403 location. Go home every day, work daytime hours, and enjoy job stability. Overtime is available, and this is not a seasonal position. Get paid weekly and participate in our driver referral bonus program. All our trucks are less than 6 years old and are Peterbilt.

Responsibilities

• Operate a flatbed truck up to 53' to transport steel/merchandise.
• Read bills of lading to determine assignment details.
• Inspect loads to ensure cargo is secure and notify the warehouse if rebuilding is required for safety.
• Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions.
• Secure cargo for transport using blocks, chains, binders, or tarps.
• Follow appropriate safety procedures for transporting oversized loads.
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from the loading crew.
• Operate equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, phones, or GPS to exchange necessary information.
• Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting/disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
• Check trailer conditions after unloading to ensure no damage has occurred.
• Inspect vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage.
• Maintain logs of working hours, vehicle service, or repair status, following state and federal regulations.
• Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid, or performing minor repairs.
• Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of Class A driving experience.
• No major moving violations in the last 2 years.
• Valid Class A CDL with flexibility to drive both standard and automatic transmissions.
• 1 year of flatbed experience, most recently pulling 53’ flats and driving 3-axle conventional sleeper trucks; oversized load experience preferred.
• Knowledgeable in securing all types of flatbed freight with chains, binders, and straps.
