Local Contract Speech-Language Pathologist - $48 per hour

About the role

The Speech Language Pathologist will primarily provide outpatient rehabilitation services in an in-home setting for the older adult population. The in-home setting could be a patient's private residence or in a patient's room in an assisted living facility or independent living facility. This role allows evaluation and treatment in the patient's home, the most functional environment. The Speech Language Pathologist organizes and provides speech-language services to facilitate rehabilitation, directing patient participation in tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. They facilitate the learning of skills and functions essential for communication and swallowing, promoting and maintaining health within the scope of practice and consistent with the Code of Ethics of the profession.

Responsibilities

• Supervise CFYs, temporary licensees, students, and support personnel in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards.
• Adhere to department and patient treatment schedules, timely clinical and billing documentation requirements, and work-related meetings.
• Attend and contribute to patient care, staffing conferences, and other related meetings.
• Make referrals to other disciplines and agencies to address the comprehensive needs of the patient.
• Consult with rehabilitation team members and physicians to select appropriate therapeutic regimens consistent with patient needs and capabilities.
• Adapt programs and plans of care according to individual patient needs.
• Promote a safe environment and enforce the elimination of fire and safety hazards.
• Order supplies and equipment as necessary; clean, maintain, and report the need for repair of equipment.
• Prioritize patient service, ensuring residents and families receive high-quality care in a compassionate atmosphere.
• Screen, examine, and evaluate patients, including history, systems review, and application of appropriate tests and measures.
• Synthesize information and interpret examination findings to establish a diagnosis, identify impairments, and determine predicted levels of improvement.
• Develop treatment goals and methods in collaboration with patients and caregivers, implement the speech-language pathology treatment plan, and complete related documentation.
• Provide therapeutic techniques in areas such as cognitive-communication, speech intelligibility, oral motor skills, swallowing disorders/dysphagia, perceptual abilities, orientation, memory, pragmatics, psychosocial expression, and functional communication.
• Coordinate the acquisition of adaptive communication devices and instruct patients in their use.
• Facilitate identification of hearing deficits and refer for assessment, diagnosis, rehabilitation, and/or personal amplification.
• Select appropriate activities suited to the individual's physical and mental capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
• Instruct patients in skills and techniques required for participation in therapeutic activities and evaluate progress, attitudes, and behavior.
• Perform routine reexamination as needed to modify or progress the plan of treatment.
• Coordinate care in the home and community with interdisciplinary team members in collaboration with the referring physician.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Valid Speech Language Pathologist license in the state(s) of practice or proof of license eligibility.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or eligibility to participate as an ASHA Clinical Fellow.
• Valid driver's license or reliable, independent transportation to and from patients' residences.

• Duration: 12 weeks (13 weeks total assignment length)
• 40 hours per week, 8-hour shifts (08:00 AM - 04:30 PM)
• Minimum guarantee: 40 hours
