Local Contract Physical Therapist - $56 per hour

Local contract opportunity in Lanham, Maryland for a Physical Therapist to provide outpatient rehabilitation services in an in-home setting for the older adult population. This role allows evaluation and treatment in the patient's home or independent living facility.

About the role

The Physical Therapist assesses needs, develops, and delivers therapy programs to facilitate rehabilitation, makes referrals to other disciplines, and implements individualized therapy programs. They educate and train patients and caregivers to promote independence and productivity, and direct activities to maintain health.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants, temporary licensees, students, and support personnel in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards.
• Adhere to department and patient treatment schedules, timely clinical and billing documentation, and attend work-related meetings.
• Participate in patient care and staffing conferences.
• Make referrals to other disciplines and agencies to address comprehensive patient needs.
• Consult with the rehabilitation team to select appropriate therapeutic regimens.
• Adapt programs and plans of care based on individual patient needs.
• Promote a safe environment and report fire and safety hazards.
• Order, clean, maintain, and report equipment needs.
• Prioritize patient service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere.
• Screen, examine, and evaluate patients, including history, systems review, and application of tests and measures.
• Develop treatment goals and methods in collaboration with patients and caregivers, implement treatment plans, and complete documentation.
• Provide therapeutic techniques including:
  • Therapeutic exercise (aerobic capacity, balance, coordination, agility, body mechanics, flexibility, gait, neuromotor development, relaxation, strength, power, and endurance training).
  • Functional training.
  • Manual therapy.
  • Airway clearance techniques.
  • Integumentary repair and protection.
  • Use of electrotherapeutic, physical agent, and mechanical modalities.
• Provide health and wellness education, chronic disease management, falls assessment, and interventions to reduce fall risk.
• Perform case management in the home and community.
• Design, fabricate, fit, and train patients in the use of adaptive devices, including orthotics and prosthetics.
• Select activities suited to the patient’s physical and mental capacity, intelligence, and interest.
• Instruct patients in mobility skills and evaluate progress, attitudes, and behavior.
• Perform routine reexaminations to modify or progress the treatment plan.
• Incorporate health and wellness programming into treatment plans.
• Perform home and community mobility assessments and provide safety recommendations.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Valid Physical Therapy license in the state(s) of practice or proof of license eligibility.
• Master’s degree in Physical Therapy; or Master’s degree in a related field plus a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy; or Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy plus 5 years of progressively responsible experience.
• Foreign degrees must be evaluated as equivalent to a U.S. Physical Therapy degree.
• Valid driver’s license or reliable, independent transportation to and from patients’ residences.

• Duration: 12 weeks (13 weeks total assignment length)
• 40 hours per week, 8-hour shifts (08:00 AM - 04:30 PM)
• Minimum guarantee: 40 hours
