Medical Solutions is seeking a local contract nurse RN CVICU for a local contract nursing job in Peoria, Illinois.

Patient Population and Diagnoses
- Post open heart surgical patients: CABG, Valves, CABG/Valve, Dissections, AAA, Vascular procedures, Carotids
- Post cardiovascular procedures: STEMI, Unstable angina, Unstable N-STEMI, Cardiogenic Shock, Cardiomyopathy
- Targeted Temperature Management (Hypothermia)
- Transcutaneous pacing, Transvenous pacing
- Severe heart failure
- TAVRs
- Cardiac related events requiring ICU care
- Ventilated patients
- Overflow patients from other ICUs including COVID patients
- Soon to come: Post VAD placement, Post heart transplant patient
Specialty Intervention Equipment

- Swan Ganz
- ECMO
- External Pacemakers
- CRRT
- Lines: PICC, Midlines, CVC, Swans, Arterial Lines (radial and femoral)
Required Experience and Skills
- At least 2 years of CVICU experience
- Ability to interpret strips
- Strong assessment skills, critical thinking, communication, organization, teamwork, compassion
- Ability to follow protocols and orders as written
- Motivation, ability to work in a fast paced, high stress environment
- Time management, positive attitude and behavior
Titratable and Set Rate Drips
- Dopamine, Dobutamine, Levophed, Epi, Neo, Vasopressin, Cleviprex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Insulin, Heparin, Esmolol
- Some drips are set rate, go by protocol or titrate by order written
Staffing and Support
- Charge nurses 24/7; charge nurses may take teams at times
- House supervisor 24/7
- PCTs with ratios ranging from 1:12 to 1:15, sometimes more depending on staffing
- CV APNs/PAs and CCS APNs/PAs majority of the time; providers on call
- Respiratory therapists 24/7
- Ventilators, CPAP, BPAP, heated high flow, nitric oxide
- Monitor techs available; RNs expected to read and interpret strips
- Philips monitoring system
Shifts and Scheduling
- Shifts are 12 hours (7a–7p or 7p–7a)
- Not self-scheduling for non AHU Mission Partners; no block scheduling
- Weekend requirements: every other weekend (Days: Sat/Sun; Nights: Fri/Sat)
- Holiday requirements: every other holiday
- Float to every level of care; travelers expected to take a full team
Dress Code
- No particular color scrubs; must be appropriate in appearance
- Scrubs not provided
Additional Notes
Unit needs someone proficient in all cardiovascular ICU components with the exception of immediate post op (bonus if they have experience). Frequent use of swans, CVC, art lines, temporary pacemakers, IABPs, multiple titratable drips, and ventilated patients; these may be present on one patient or combined in one assignment.
