Reports to: Location President | Department: Lending

About the role

Responsible for analyzing loan applications, making loans, monitoring and servicing existing loan customers, making credit decisions, collecting on loans, and marketing the bank’s services and products.

Responsibilities

  • Perform lending duties:
    • Meet with existing and potential customers
    • Review loan applications and financial information
    • Analyze financial ratios, cash flows, and credit history
    • Provide credit counseling
    • Determine whether to approve or deny credit requests
    • Oversee the preparation of documentation
    • Complete loan closing and credit files
    • Handle denials and withdrawals
  • Handle past due loan and bad debt collections and repossession work:
    • Contact customers by telephone and/or mail
    • Work out payment schedules
    • Contact collection agency when necessary
    • Repossess collateral when necessary
    • Monitor classified loans
    • Protect the assets of the Bank
  • Service account relationships:
    • Approve various negotiable instruments for deposit
    • Transfer funds
    • Authorize checks for cashing
    • Determine disposition of daily overdrafts
  • Develop new deposit and loan relationships:
    • Call on potential customers and introduce the Bank’s products and services
    • Visit with existing customers regarding their deposits and investments to determine additional needs
    • Visit with existing customers to obtain potential business referrals
    • Work with customers regarding resolution of complaints and/or problems
    • Establish and maintain open communication with customers regarding their needs
    • Attempt to determine new and better ways to market Bank products and services
    • Develop new product recommendations that will generate additional business
    • Ensure customer satisfaction with Bank products and services
    • Maintain awareness of and involvement in community and civic activities
  • Make credit decisions, including:
    • Determine whether to approve or deny loan applications
    • Grant loans based upon loan policy
    • Answer customer questions and resolve problems and complaints
    • Make overdraft decisions
    • Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures

Requirements

  • College degree in accounting, finance, or business; banking school coursework
  • Minimum of four years credit/lending experience
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations, and Bank policies and procedures
  • Analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and projects simultaneously within a limited time frame
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and customer relations skills
  • Attention to detail and mental concentration for working in a stressful environment, accurately performing tasks, and handling frequent interruptions

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise Lending Assistant
  • Oversee loan closing activities performed by Lending Assistant
  • Answer questions and provide guidance on loan documentation issues
