About the role
This position involves operating various types of heavy equipment to manage salvage vehicles and facility grounds. Compliance with federal, state, and local regulations is essential.
Responsibilities
- Perform preoperational inspections to ensure equipment safety.
- Operate equipment safely and courteously, managing pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
- Check fluids and lubricate equipment according to schedule.
- Communicate findings and equipment hours to management.
- Prioritize and plan workloads to prevent operational delays.
- Unload cars from haulers, stage cars for inventory, dismantle, and cut vehicles.
- Maintain grounds by removing snow, spreading stone, and ensuring proper drainage.
- Assist with regulatory compliance and quality assurance of dismantled vehicles.
- Load processed cars onto processing racks and prepare for final disposal.
- Assist with safety and regulatory compliance within the facility.
- Ensure accurate location of vehicles in the salvage yard.
- Communicate delays and issues promptly to management and coworkers.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by dispatch.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience.
- Heavy equipment operations experience and some automotive background.
- Basic technology competence (scan gun, tablet/phone applications).
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle stress and operate calmly in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Previous heavy equipment operating experience.
- Basic computer skills.
- General maintenance knowledge.
- Understanding of automotive components and disassembly.
- Experience in rigging/lifting operations.
