About the Role
This position calls for a self-motivated individual who does not need constant supervision. The ideal candidate should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. Imagination and inventiveness are essential to cope with constantly changing situations and people.
Responsibilities
- Operate forklift to load plastic pipe and fittings according to prescribed loading methods.
- Refuel, add oil and water to trucks as required, and complete the "Daily Forklift Checklist."
- Inspect for damaged pipe and break standard units to create mixed or partial units.
- Maintain cleanliness of the yard and warehouse.
- Perform quality checks while moving pipe.
- Plan loads and weight distribution; verify pipe numbers against the loader’s ticket.
- Clear the pad and correctly stack crates.
- Operate tools safely and understand the organization of stock racks.
- Attend required training sessions and wear mandated safety equipment (e.g., hearing protection, safety glasses).
- Learn new tasks and take on individual responsibilities.
Requirements
- One year of shipping experience.
- High school diploma or GED; or one to three months of related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year of forklift driving experience.
Skills
- Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Proficiency in basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Problem-solving skills to address practical issues in dynamic environments.
- Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
