Load Securement & Road Instructor

About the role

Western Express HQ is in Nashville, TN, with outlying locations across the country offering a small-town, family-oriented atmosphere. This position requires full-time, in-person presence due to the hands-on nature of training and coaching.

Responsibilities

• Load Securement Duties: Instruct drivers on proper securement techniques, demonstrate procedures, evaluate performance, and provide feedback.
• Securement Performance: Ensure training meets FMCSA regulations and internal policy requirements, reinforce customer-specific policies, and model safe driving behavior.
• Road Instructor Duties: Conduct in-cab evaluations, provide feedback, train on pre-trip and post-trip inspections, address driving concerns, and uphold safe driving practices.
• Cargo Inspection: Properly use chains, straps, ropes, and tarping techniques, secure coils, lumber, wire, rebar, containers, and sheetrock, and adhere to job site and roadside safety protocols.
• Defensive Driving: Implement defensive driving practices and comply with FMCSA regulations, conduct pre-trip inspections, and operate vehicles according to standards.

Qualifications

• Prior experience with flatbed load securement and over-the-road driving.
• Instructional or training experience in a safety or driving environment preferred.
• Strong communication skills for coaching and motivating behaviors.
• Basic computer literacy for logging training progress and completing reports.
• Reliable transportation and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
• Ability to work outdoors and in various weather conditions (when safe).
• Certifications in OSHA, TIA, or similar safety programs a plus.
