About the role
Load Planners coordinate all processes and functions of freight movement and customer service. They process customer orders, plan and optimize shipments into loads using a Transportation Manager System, tender freight to third-party carriers, update shipment information, and respond to internal and external customer inquiries. Load Planners also provide visibility to management and customers by tracking, auditing, researching, and troubleshooting operational issues.
Responsibilities
- Load-building: adding shipments to a load, rating a load, securing carrier coverage, and appointment setting
- Monitoring and resolving MCP email messages
- Identifying shipping opportunities for improved performance (e.g., truckload multi-stops, consolidated shipments)
- Providing excellent customer service to assigned account(s)
- Managing call center and shared email box responsibilities
- Tracking shipments, auditing, investigating load exceptions, and troubleshooting operational issues
- Recovering customer loads
- Completing daily logs and trackers
- Providing detailed instructions to customers and associates via phone and email
- Completing other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor
Requirements
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required; Bachelor's Degree in Business or Supply Chain Management preferred
- One (1) plus year of experience in Transportation/Supply Chain preferred
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and sense of urgency
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn and operate various computer systems across different platforms
- Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with customers and Penske associates
- Critical thinking skills to analyze information, communicate appropriately, make decisions, solve problems, and evaluate results
- Flexibility to work First, Second, and Third shifts as needed

- Regular, predictable, full attendance is essential
- Willingness to travel as necessary and work at the required location
Physical Requirements
- Ability to read, communicate verbally and in writing, and analyze information
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, use hands to touch/handle/feel, and reach with hands and arms
- Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 lbs/12 kg
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
- Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM (with occasional Saturdays)
Pay
$23.61/hr – $30.10/hr
