Responsibilities
- General maintenance including crawling under equipment, lying on the ground, weed eating, spraying, side mowing, bush hogging, discing fields
- Record keeping
- Moving reels, pivots, linear, pumps, or other equipment
- Driving tractor/mowers
- Complying with Safety (IPS), Bio-Security (BMS), and Environmental (EMS) management systems
- Daily rainfall readings, inspections
- Facilitating spill recoveries with a trash pump
- Winterizing equipment
- AerWaying, setting up pump and suction, and pumping/transferring water or effluent
- Achieving certification as a spray applicator within one year of hire
- Working on-call for emergency situations
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Previous experience with farm machinery or heavy equipment
- Ability to work alone
- Ability to follow instructions and maintain a positive work environment
- Weekend, evening, and holiday work required
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Qualifications
- Ability to read and speak English
- Ability to work an average 48-hour week, which can vary frequently
- Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to be respectful, approachable, and team-oriented
Skills
- Knowledge of farm machinery and heavy equipment
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently and on-call
Benefits
Smithfield offers competitive compensation, including a starting pay of $19.25 per hour. Additional benefits may include health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
