About the role

The Subway Shift Lead oversees day-to-day shift operations to ensure exceptional customer service, food safety, cleanliness, and operational standards are consistently met. This role supports restaurant leadership by supervising team members, assisting with scheduling, training staff, and maintaining inventory control while leading by example on the front line.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise shift operations to ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and Subway brand standards
  • Perform all duties of a Sandwich Artist, including food preparation, guest service, and cash handling
  • Train and coach new or less experienced Sandwich Artists on job duties and operational procedures
  • Maintain inventory control and food rotation standards
  • Inspect equipment and storage areas during shifts to ensure cleanliness, organization, and proper working condition
  • Assign and supervise staff during shifts to ensure efficient workflow and guest satisfaction
  • Complete required paperwork and shift documentation as needed
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures, including securing the restaurant
  • Support a positive team environment and address guest concerns promptly and professionally
  • Complete required University of Subway training and certifications

  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs

Qualifications

  • Previous retail, food service, or customer service experience
  • Must be able to do basic math at the eighth-grade level
  • On-the-job training is provided for all new team members

Schedule

This position requires flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and some holidays. Weekly hours will vary depending on business needs.

Working Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Maintains Food Handlers and Food Safety Certification as required by Refuel
  • Must be able to stand during the entire work shift
  • Must be able to work in a cooler at a temperature of 35 degrees for up to 30 minutes
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be able to tolerate gas fumes and cleaning products
  • Must be able to climb a ladder to clean windows

Travel

Must be able to travel up to 10%
