Litigation Responsibilities

• Fact finding and investigations
• Preparation of medical summaries
• Drafting, editing, and cite-checking pleadings
• Preparing and responding to discovery
• Preparing and attending depositions, hearings, mediations, and trials
• Aiding in all aspects of post-trial work

Essential Duties

• Follows ethical requirements as set by state rules of professional conduct
• Reviews and analyzes cases for trial preparation
• Analyzes matters for matter evaluation and status reports
• Drafts complaints, answers, notices, affidavits, motions, and petitions
• Maintains pleading boards, attorney trial notebooks, expert witness notebooks, document indexes, and lists
• Locates and consults with expert witnesses and resource people
• Schedules expert witness inspections and obtains approvals
• Conducts research and locates relevant cases, depositions, opinions, reports, and information
• Interviews parties, witnesses, and experts, including obtaining written statements
• Reviews and outlines depositions, indexes, and summarizes documents
• Utilizes computerized litigation techniques and software
• Assists in trial preparation by drafting and preparing: Pre-trial Orders, Form Instructions to the Jury, Requested Voir Dire of Jurors, Conduct Jury Investigation, Prepare Witness and Exhibit Lists, Motions in Limine, and Subpoenas, and contacts witnesses
• Aids in the trial process by scheduling witnesses and managing exhibits
• Enters billable time in the Firm’s timekeeping system

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Knowledge of legal principles and practices
• Ability to organize and prioritize tasks
• Proofreading skills for contextual, grammatical, typographical, or spelling errors
• Interpersonal skills for communication and following attorney instructions
• Ability to handle multiple cases simultaneously
• Ability to work occasional overtime
• Ability to travel to various locations

Physical Demands

• Normal office environment
• Occasional exposure to physical labor such as retrieving and distributing print volumes, pushing and pulling carts, and carrying up to 20 pounds
