About the role

The Litigation Docket Coordinator is responsible for performing electronic court filings in federal, state, and appellate courts; assisting with procedural and filing requirements for all state and federal courts, with a special emphasis on California courts; calendaring dates generated by court documents and other legal filings; and monitoring and interpreting court and agency rules.

Ensures a high level of client service and satisfaction in all aspects of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Electronically file documents in federal, state, and appellate courts.
  • Review filings for compliance with court rules and requirements.
  • Communicate e-filing procedures and updates to attorneys and staff.
  • Cook up with third-party vendors for filing, delivery, and court research.
  • Conduct procedural research across jurisdictions.
  • Calculate and calendar court deadlines using the automated docketing system.
  • Apply court rules to advise attorneys on deadlines and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, consistent calendar entries.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly firmwide calendar reports.
  • Monitor rule changes and communicate updates to attorneys and staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and calendaring experience.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience with docketing and e-filing in state and federal courts.
  • Familiarity with California procedural codes, Fed. R. Civ. P., and local court rules and requirements as pertinent to e-filing, docketing, and calendaring.
  • Experience using CompuLaw or similar docketing system preferred.
  • Ability to take an assignment from inception to completion with minimal supervision or by following broad guidelines.
  • Ability to assess information, anticipate issues and outcomes, and make effective decisions.
  • Ability to prepare accurate, highly detailed work product.
  • Highly effective communication skills (written and verbal), and ability to communicate credibly and diplomatically with all levels in an organization.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and other applications used by the department.
  • Able to organize time, prioritize workload effectively, and work independently.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and to meet deadlines under competing priorities.
  • Reliable, dependable, and strong motivation to respond to requests quickly.
  • Strong team player skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals at all levels of an organization.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Experience with legal software and systems such as CompuLaw.
  • Knowledge of California procedural codes, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and local court rules and requirements.
  • Experience with calendaring and docketing systems.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
