Litigation Attorney (Remote) - Outdoor Recreation & Hospitality

You'll have the opportunity to support clients including ski resorts, mountain bike parks, hotels, venues, equipment manufacturers and retailers, and industry trade associations, while gaining exposure to complex liability, catastrophic injury, risk management, and employment matters. We're looking for an experienced California litigation attorney with strong pre-trial and law-and-motion experience who thrives in a fast-paced environment, exercises sound judgment, and can independently manage significant aspects of litigation matters. This role is ideal for an attorney who is confident handling day-to-day case responsibilities, enjoys solving problems, and is comfortable taking ownership without requiring close supervision. You'll work closely with the Partner on sophisticated litigation matters, including catastrophic injury and liability disputes involving the ski, mountain biking, outdoor recreation, hospitality, resort, and adventure industries, as well as employment defense matters for Fortune 500 companies and insurance carriers.

Responsibilities

• Support clients in the sports, recreation, hospitality, resort, and adventure industries — including ski resorts, mountain bike parks, hotels, venues, equipment manufacturers and retailers, and industry trade associations
• Handle complex liability, catastrophic injury, risk management, and employment matters
• Work closely with the Partner on sophisticated litigation matters
• Manage catastrophic injury and liability disputes involving the ski, mountain biking, outdoor recreation, hospitality, resort, and adventure industries
• Handle employment defense matters for Fortune 500 companies and insurance carriers
• Independently manage significant portions of cases and confidently handle routine client and case-related inquiries
• Draft dispositive motions, substantive motions, motions to compel, meet-and-confer correspondence, and other pre-trial filings
• Provide timely updates and practical recommendations to clients and colleagues

Requirements

• At least 7–10 years of litigation experience with a strong background in civil litigation
• Licensed to practice in California
• Strong legal writing skills and experience drafting dispositive motions, substantive motions, motions to compel, meet-and-confer correspondence, and other pre-trial filings
• Ability to independently manage significant portions of a case and confidently handle routine client and case-related inquiries
• Sound judgment with the ability to proactively identify issues and solutions without close supervision
• Produces thoughtful, concise, high-quality work product with strong attention to detail
• Highly responsive, organized, and comfortable managing multiple active matters in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Effective communication with clients and colleagues, providing timely updates and practical recommendations
• Experience with catastrophic injury, premises liability, employment defense, risk management, or matters involving the outdoor recreation or hospitality industries is a plus

Scale attorneys operate within a transparent, collections-based compensation model intentionally designed to align compensation with ownership and responsibility. Economics are linear and predictable, allowing attorneys to clearly see the connection between the work they do for clients and the value they create. The model is designed to support sustainable, high-quality practices — without opaque formulas, partnership taxes, or unnecessary politics. The role includes a guarantee of at least 1,000 hours annually.
