Litigation Attorney

About the Role

We are partnering with a well‑established, full‑service law firm in Houston, TX, seeking an experienced Commercial Litigation Attorney for an initial three‑month contract with strong potential to convert to a permanent position. The role offers immediate, substantive litigation work handling sophisticated commercial disputes in both Texas state and federal courts, with the opportunity to work on employment litigation matters as well.

Responsibilities

• Manage commercial litigation matters in Texas state and federal courts
• Draft and respond to written discovery, including initial disclosures and discovery requests
• Prepare protective orders and other procedural filings
• Prepare detailed deposition outlines, schedule and coordinate depositions, and take and defend depositions
• Evaluate discovery responses and develop litigation strategy
• Prepare removals to federal court and draft corporate disclosure statements
• Prepare for and attend pre‑trial conferences
• Draft dispositive motions, including motions for summary judgment
• Conduct legal research and prepare persuasive legal memoranda
• Work directly with clients throughout all phases of litigation
• Collaborate with partners and litigation teams on complex business disputes

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Licensed to practice law in Texas
• Significant commercial litigation experience, with required experience in both Texas state and federal courts
• Labor & Employment litigation experience preferred
• Strong deposition experience
• Extensive motion practice experience
• Excellent legal writing and analytical skills
• Ability to independently manage an active litigation workload

Compensation

• Contract rate: $90 – $105 per hour (potentially $100+/hour)
• Permanent salary range upon conversion: $180,000 – $220,000 per year
