Literacy Teacher - Marin County Campus (on-site)

Winston Preparatory School is seeking a passionate educator to join our Marin County campus as a Literacy Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The hired candidate will begin in August 2026.

About Winston Preparatory School

Winston Preparatory School is a co-ed private day school for 3-12th-grade students with diverse learning profiles such as dyslexia, NVLD, and executive functioning difficulties (ADHD). Our mission is to facilitate the independence and meaningful participation of students with specific learning disorders through a Continuous Feedback System that develops skill acquisition and the Qualities of a Sustainable and Independent Learner.

Founded in 1981, Winston Preparatory School is a network of eight campuses, both physical and virtual, for students ages 8-21+ with learning differences. Our model is based on an in-depth understanding of each student, resulting in grouping by learning profile and precisely designed programming. Our expert faculty continually assess how a student is responding to their skill development plan and adjust our teaching approach accordingly. Students also participate in a daily one-to-one session called Focus, designed as the diagnostic, instructional, and mentoring centerpiece of their experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment
• Teach students in a 1:1 setting and/or small class setting
• Instruct students in their greatest areas of need using techniques such as multi-sensory learning and repetition
• Provide decoding, encoding, reading fluency, reading comprehension, and writing remediation in one-to-one and classroom settings
• Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time
• Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining a conducive learning environment
• Meet with parents to discuss their children’s progress and determine priorities for their individualized educational needs
• Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare reports as required
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students
• Communicate with parents weekly to discuss their children’s progress
• Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Collaborate with students’ teams and document weekly updates to families and the teaching team
• Maintain professional competence through staff development activities and other professional opportunities

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) in Literacy, English, Special Education, or a related field
• Master’s degree (MA or MS) in Speech-Language Pathology, Reading Specialist, Special Education, or Learning Specialist is highly desirable
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching language arts or specialized literacy to students in grades 3–12; experience with students with learning differences is preferred
• Training in multisensory and evidence-based reading and writing programs (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, Lindamood-Bell, PAF, SRSD) is a strong plus
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, effective classroom management, excellent organization, and a collaborative, flexible mindset
• Proficiency in Google Workspace, Meet, and Classroom

Pay

The salary range for this position is $60,000-$80,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience.
