Literacy Specialist, Alpha - $100,000/year USD

About the role

This role is for a Literacy Specialist at Alpha, a company that reimagines the school day around faster learning, stronger mentorship, and more time for students to build real-world skills. The position is immediate and full-time (40 hours per week).

Responsibilities

• Create and facilitate small-group K-2 literacy workshops rooted in structured-literacy practices (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or similar), informed by live student performance data
• Run daily motivational activities that ensure 100% of students achieve their weekly adaptive-app targets, applying Alpha's motivational framework (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification)
• Conduct and interpret running records, fluency assessments, and decoding checks to monitor progress and refine subsequent instruction
• Analyze AI-generated performance insights from Alpha's adaptive platforms to differentiate instruction dynamically, not only during planning periods
• Serve as the engaging, approachable adult your K-2 students are excited to work with every day

Requirements

• Certification in structured literacy (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or comparable program) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
• Bachelor's degree in any discipline, combined with 2+ years of full-time K-2 structured literacy instruction in a school or clinical environment, using systematic phonics or structured literacy approaches
• Proven capacity to independently design reading lessons and clearly explain your instructional methods and content, without depending on a published program
• Availability to work in person full-time at one Alpha campus: Phoenix, AZ; Oklahoma City or Tulsa, OK; Fort Worth (Keller), Dallas, Plano, or The Woodlands, TX; or Park City (Salt Lake City), UT (relocation assistance available)
• Commitment to working with all K-2 learners (not exclusively struggling readers) and to incorporating AI and adaptive-learning platforms into everyday instruction

Nice-to-have Requirements

• Practical experience using AI-powered or adaptive literacy tools (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student performance analysis
• Documented reading gains (fluency improvement in WCPM, accuracy increases, decoding level progression) that you can cite with specific metrics
• Experience in non-traditional or innovative educational settings (charter schools, micro-schools, Montessori, hybrid models)
• Experience in performance, youth sports coaching, or engaging K-2 audiences in contexts outside traditional literacy instruction

Qualifications

Basic requirements include certification in structured literacy or a Master's degree in reading instruction, along with 2+ years of full-time K-2 structured literacy instruction.
