LIT Program Description

The 24-month rotational program includes 12 months on-site as a technician, learning maintenance and troubleshooting of wind turbines. Fellows will then rotate into back-office departments for 3 to 4-month rotations.

Field Rotation

  • Utilize mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic skills for routine and unscheduled maintenance
  • Maintain routine activities to keep turbines operational
  • Adhere to company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices
  • Learn advanced troubleshooting and repair techniques
  • Establish and maintain general safety from the system and perform lock out/tag out (LOTO)
  • Support mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems troubleshooting and repairs
  • Generate required reports and paperwork
  • Recognize and report wind turbine error codes
  • Assist in all areas of site operations
  • Assist with high-voltage system maintenance and repair

Additional Learning Opportunities

  • Sitting with Site Managers, Coordinators, and Leads to learn operational processes
  • Shadowing the recruitment and interview process for new technicians

Experience/Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University, preferably in Wind/Renewable Energy disciplines
  • An affinity for all things mechanical
  • Back-office skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, and follow instructions
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to deal with problems involving at least one concrete variable
  • Physical fitness to free-climb 300 ft multiple times a day while wearing 25+ lbs. of climbing gear and work in extreme weather conditions
  • Pass a physical exam and drug/alcohol screening
  • Capable of lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required for potential work in close confines
  • Able to rescue teammates in emergencies
