Primary Responsibilities
- Reports to school office at beginning and end of school day to check in and obtain required materials/schedule of classes.
- Copies lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher and follows them.
- Creates a classroom environment that supports learning and is appropriate to the students' age and interests.
- Guides the learning process to achieve curriculum goals, objectives, scope and sequence, and learning targets as outlined in the lesson plans.
- Uses instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting learning targets, including proficiency in instructional technology and related resources.
- Affords assessments of student progress towards learning targets, objectives, expectations, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, the regular teacher, and administration.
- Maintains a neat and orderly classroom by straightening chairs, tables, instructional materials and equipment, etc.
- Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.
- Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment, indicating basic expectations at the start of class and ensuring students are never left unattended.
- Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classrooms assigned and related school procedures and regulations.
- Maintains a safe and positive learning environment by monitoring students in various educational settings.
- Works cooperatively with instructional staff, other school personnel, and parents to improve overall student outcomes.
- Demonstrates and differentiates methods required to perform classroom and/or subject-specific assignments to address individual student requirements.
- Prepares a variety of feedback to the regular teacher, such as grades, student behavior, communication with parents and students, examinations and quizzes, etc., for the purpose of documenting student compliance and performance.
- Reports incidents for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to school policies.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Requirements
Requires a bachelor's degree in education or a related field, and certification as a teacher. Experience working with children is preferred but not required.
