Key Responsibilities
- Design, harden, and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Ubuntu systems.
- Implement High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies and patching standards.
- Diagnose and resolve network issues across OSI/TCP/IP layers, including DNS, DHCP, routing, VLANs, firewalls, SSL/TLS, and certificates.
- Deploy, configure, and tune F5 BIG-IP (LTM/GTM, iRules) and HAProxy for Layer 4-7 services.
- Build and secure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) environments in Azure, including virtual machines, networks, security groups, Network Security Groups (NSGs), User Defined Routes (UDRs), Azure Load Balancers, Azure Firewalls, and storage.
- Develop utilities and services in C and Python, integrating them with Continuous Integration (CI) pipelines.
- Create health checks and runbooks for monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Implement observability and performance monitoring, including metrics and logging, and profile and tune kernel and application performance.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for incidents and collaborate with Application, Network, and Security Operations teams.
Core Competencies
- Expertise in designing, hardening, and maintaining Linux systems (RHEL/Ubuntu) in production environments, focusing on system security, performance optimization, and high availability.
- Strong hands-on experience in building, securing, and supporting cloud infrastructures across IaaS and PaaS environments, particularly within Microsoft Azure, including virtual machines, networking, storage, and security.
- In-depth understanding of networking protocols and troubleshooting at all OSI/TCP/IP layers, with expertise in diagnosing and resolving issues related to DNS, DHCP, routing, VLANs, firewalls, and SSL/TLS.
- Effective collaboration in cross-functional teams, including documenting architectures, creating runbooks, and contributing to post-mortems and root cause analysis for incidents.
Education and Experience
- 10+ years in Linux systems engineering/administration in production environments.
- Experience designing, building, and supporting mission-critical infrastructure across Azure and on-premises environments.
- Hands-on experience writing C and Python for systems tooling, performance, or networking use cases.
- Strong practical experience in designing, deploying, and tuning F5 BIG-IP and HAProxy.
- Practical experience building and supporting Azure infrastructure (compute, networking, storage).
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience in Linux systems engineering, cloud infrastructure, and networking.
This is a hybrid position based in Pomona, CA. Applicants must be able to commute to the Pomona, CA location.
