Responsibilities
- Install and repair aerial telecommunications cable
- Safely use hand tools and equipment such as wrenches, drills, ladders, lanyards, saws, lashers, and climbing hooks
- Safely operate mechanized equipment such as bucket trucks, digger derricks, and excavators
- Set up safety perimeters using signage, cones, and safety barriers
- Flag traffic when required
- Understand separation and clearance regulations
- Safely work aloft using climbing hooks and ladders
- Maintain safe working habits and conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies
Requirements
- 18 years of age or older
- Authorization to work in the United States for this company
- High school diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
- Valid state driver’s license (cannot be provisional) with an acceptable driving record
- Must pass a background check and company drug screening
- Must attend and pass all company-required training
- May be required to work overtime, after hours, on weekends, for emergencies, or be on-call
- May include working nights and holidays as needed
- May be required to travel in-state or overnight as necessary
- Regular and timely attendance is an essential function of this position
Qualifications
- Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunications industry
- Knowledge of established aerial cable installation procedures and techniques
- Able to climb telephone poles and work in a bucket truck at heights up to 40 feet
- Able to perform all duties in telecommunications construction (e.g., pole transfers, maintenance builds, new builds, cable installation, over lash, and strand construction)
- Able to lift and carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs as needed with or without assistance
- Knowledge of the color code system for cable pairs or willingness to learn
- Ability to work in confined spaces
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work with internal and external customers
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
Working Environment
- Moderate noise level
- Regular exposure to outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, sleet, dust, and adverse driving conditions
- Potential exposure to dust, fumes, or other airborne pathogens
- Potential exposure to toxic or corrosive chemicals and moving machinery parts
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus near and/or far as needed.
Pay
The Lineman I Telecom hourly wage range is $30.00 - $35.00 depending on experience.
