About the Role

This position is the second highest of a multi-step progression from Apprentice Lineman to Journeyman Lineman. The role involves installing, repairing, and maintaining overhead and underground electrical power lines and auxiliary equipment. You will be expected to know all aspects of Journeyman Lineman duties for the Company.

Responsibilities

• Work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized conductors.
• Set poles and anchors according to safety policies and specifications.
• Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
• Perform rigorous physical labor.
• Learn distribution voltages on a circuit and understand induced voltage.
• Read and understand blueprints.
• Assist with inspecting and recognizing structural problems.
• Work productively from an aerial device.
• Function within a team environment and share knowledge with fellow crew members.
• Work alone on de-energized lines.
• Learn wire stringing techniques and how to sag wire from structure or bucket.
• Assist with assembly and erecting poles to all heights.
• Assist in framing and setting most basic line structures.
• Assist in framing a de-energized pole structure in the air.
• Install all types of compression connections.
• Work at heights and/or confined spaces.
• Properly install and remove PPE and cover up.
• Inspect rubber goods, covers, and PPE.
• Climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.).
• Tie various lineman knots.
• Create and use a hand line.
• Understand grounding procedures and principles of proper equipment set-up.
• Identify different types of materials used in line work.
• Understand minimum approach distance and flag and tag procedures.
• Perform basic bucket rescue/escape.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Journeyman level experience installing and maintaining overhead and underground power lines.
• Valid CDL A.
• First Aid Certification.
• Competency in CPR and pole top rescue.
• Pass drug, alcohol, and background checks.
• Pass a physical examination.
• Able and willing to travel long distances on short notice.
• Able and willing to work for extended periods in various locations.
• Able and willing to work in all types of weather environments, including inclement weather.
• Able and willing to work overtime when required.
