Lineman 2nd Class - Non-union
About the role
A entry-level line worker that installs and fixes overhead distribution and transmission systems, which includes poles, cables, and electrical systems. Line Workers also fit, repair, and maintain underground cables and electrical equipment.
Primary responsibilities
- Installing transformers, lightening arrestors, cutouts, crossarms, insulators, switches, and switchgear
- Setting poles and anchors, stringing overhead wire, proper sagging techniques
- Troubleshooting trouble in primary and secondary systems. Replacing cutout fuses and clearing faulted circuits and systems.
- Ensuring daily testing and inspection of assigned tools and equipment.
- Professionally communicating work to be performed to public and private property owners.
- Maintaining company equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performing new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead line work following company established Safety and Health standards.
- Reporting all potential equipment and crew safety hazards to Foreperson.
General duties
- All other duties as required or requested by Supervisors.
Minimum qualifications
- Ability and specific skill to work with energized high voltage systems.
- Strong communication skills both written and spoken.
- Ability to work with and around heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of proper sagging techniques.
- Ability to install and remove a service.
- Some knowledge of checking voltage on transformers, one shot on a recloser and grounding procedures.
- Some understanding of flag and tag procedures.
- Some knowledge of safely installing and removing a mechanical jumper.
- Ability to identify, operate and service all required tools and equipment (i.e., bucket truck, digger derrick truck, tensioners, puller, rollers, hand tamp, chain saw, concrete saw, shovel).
- Ability to work long hours and overtime during holidays, emergencies, weekends, etc.
Education and experience
Must have a minimum of 1 - 2 years of experience in the electrical power line construction industry. Be able to provide proof of work experience, schooling, and any certifications that you have obtained during your career.
Traveling requirements
Must be willing to travel out of state for emergency storm work.
Driver License
A valid Drivers License is preferred, if not must be able to discuss during the interview process. A Valid CDL is preferred or willingness to obtain valid CDL within 90 days of employment. If unable to obtain, please discuss this during the interview process.
Safety
Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8 or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.

- Continuously (up to 100%): Standing, Walking, Sense of Touch, Speaking Clearly, Seeing Distant, Seeing, Reaching, Range of Motion, Hearing-Speech Range, Depth Perception, Color Vision, Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling, Lifting Over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., Balancing, Lifting Up to 10 lbs., and Lifting Up to 50 lbs.
