To serve our customers by safely and efficiently transporting product from the warehouse by driving a tractor-trailer to various destination points according to customer invoices and company standards. This position involves mainly daytime driving with some night driving required, and routes typically last 2 to 3 days at a time, including out-of-state travel.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport product from the warehouse to customer locations, ensuring timely delivery according to assigned routes; load and unload product per customer specifications.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and submit on time, including DOT electronic or manual logs, inspections, vehicle maintenance reports, pre- and post-trip reports, and invoices with accurate case counts matching bill of ladings.
  • Adhere to all food safety protocols, such as maintaining proper temperatures in the delivery vehicle.
  • Follow preferred work methods and report any unsafe conditions to management immediately.
  • Maintain and safely operate assigned equipment, including pallets, load bars, SLS unit, and personal protective equipment.
  • Develop and maintain good customer relationships through excellent and courteous service with clear communication.
  • Communicate with management regarding route deviations, trailer or loading issues, and customer or product concerns.
  • Work assigned schedule and additional hours as needed to meet customer needs; maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent degree; 1 year of tractor-trailer driving experience preferred. Completion of a tractor-trailer driving school may substitute for or supplement education.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License; must be insurable to operate a vehicle as a condition of employment.

Skills

  • Knowledge of: Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, Hazmat guidelines, safe lifting and delivery practices.
  • Skill in: Long-distance driving across various terrains and weather conditions, customer communication, problem-solving, and product delivery.
  • Ability to:
    • Drive a tractor-trailer day or night in diverse traffic and weather conditions while remaining alert.
    • Meet or exceed company productivity standards.
    • Operate a 3-axle tractor, 45'–48' trailer, straight truck, onboard computer keypad, and 2-wheel hand cart.
    • Read, write, and communicate in English as required for the job and safety regulations.
    • Perform basic math functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
    • Plan and organize work activities independently.
    • Solve problems effectively.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, talk, and hear.
  • Occasionally required to lift, push, or move up to 50 pounds by hand and push/pull up to 350 pounds using a 2-wheeled hand cart down a ramp into customer storage areas.
  • Frequently climb in and out of a tractor and trailer.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold, and/or humid conditions.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts and confined spaces.
  • Typically works an overnight schedule, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts with varying start times to meet customer needs.
  • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles.
  • Moderate noise level in the work environment.
