About the Role
Team drivers needed for a run from Houston, TX to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Pay is $0.90 per mile (split) plus a $0.06 per mile quarterly safety bonus (split), with an expected 4,600 miles per week. Drivers operate tractor-trailer combinations or straight trucks to transport cargo freight and may handle loading, unloading, and delivery.
Responsibilities
- Drive vehicle to specified destinations in accordance with company procedures and governmental regulations.
- Apply commercial driving skills in varying speeds and conditions, including heavy traffic, inclement weather, and tight loading/unloading dock areas.
- Maintain telephone or radio contact with dispatcher for pick-up or delivery instructions.
- Load and unload trailers, with or without assistance or mechanical equipment, ensuring securement using cargo straps, tarps, ropes, chains, lumber, and other tools.
- Perform lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying of freight as needed.
- Hook and unhook trailers from tractors or converter dollies.
- Inspect tractor or truck for defects before, during, and after trips; submit reports on vehicle condition.
- Note the condition of equipment such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, and water.
- Install and remove tire chains as required by weather conditions.
- Ensure all shipping documents (manifest, bills of lading, delivery receipts, hazardous material placarding, etc.) are available and complete.
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and all Federal, State, and local regulations for safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
- Maintain required records, including driver logs, vehicle inspections, and other reports.
- Report safety hazards, accidents, or on-the-job injuries immediately to the on-duty supervisor.
- Dependable and consistent attendance is required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, plus one to two years of tractor-trailer driving experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current, valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A).
- Ability to obtain a hazardous materials endorsement and, if required, a doubles endorsement.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as hazardous materials shipping regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, and the public.
- Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to reach overhead and finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls for extended periods.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to examine equipment and cargo.
- Ability to install and remove 60-pound tire chains as required by weather conditions.
- Ability to push or pull freight up to 4,000 pounds using a pallet jack.
- May be required to reposition (push or pull) a 3,500-pound dolly on uneven surfaces while hooking trailers.
Work Environment
- Regular exposure to outside weather conditions.
- May work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and vibration.
