About the Role
Assist in the inspection, maintenance, construction, and testing of transmission and fiber optic lines and substations on electrical systems up to 230,000 volts.
Responsibilities
- Perform overhead and underground transmission line inspection (walk, climb, and helicopter) under direct supervision using appropriate licenses, training certifications, and basic skills.
- Follow Santee Cooper transmission inspection guidelines to assess transmission line, fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and substation integrity and determine maintenance requirements.
- Safely perform maintenance activities on overhead and underground de-energized transmission lines and substations under direct supervision, following Santee Cooper transmission operations guidelines.
- Climb wood and non-wood structures and operate specialized equipment to reach work heights in excess of 100 ft. during maintenance and construction activities.
- Follow Santee Cooper construction specifications to safely construct overhead and underground transmission lines and substations under direct supervision.
- Provide stand-by, emergency response while off duty for the restoration of transmission lines and substations during power outages under direct supervision.
- Develop, demonstrate, and apply knowledge of the safety manual in all work performed; actively participate in safety meetings and follow safe work methods and procedures.
- Conduct job site safety briefings.
- Attend and participate in all Santee Cooper apprenticeship and mandatory training requirements each year as determined by the task manual, management, and OSHA.
- Use communication skills to exchange information and perform essential duties to support unit operations, including general housekeeping, maintenance of fleet and warehouse stock, and upkeep of tools.
- Report to designated crew quarters within 30 minutes when on call.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge of electricity preferred.
- Must maintain pole top rescue re-certification annually; maximum body weight cannot exceed equipment rating minus the weight of associated work tools and equipment.
- Pole climbing proficiency required within six months after employment.
- Must obtain CDL-Class A license with fifth wheel endorsement within six months after employment.
Pay
Line Technician B: $30.05 - $37.55 (min.-mid.)
Line Technician C: $24.35 - $30.40 (min.-mid.)
