Line Technician

Piedmont EMC is hiring for a full-time Line Technician to perform diverse work erecting, repairing, and operating distribution and transmission facilities, including energized lines, structures, and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain strict compliance with all safety regulations and work conditions.
• Establish and maintain reliable electric systems and distribution voltages under direct supervision.
• Operate all types of equipment used in line work.
• Make decisions in the application of standards and provide instruction to ground workers or others of a lower classification.
• Develop limited knowledge of substation operations and circuit feeds/opening points.
• Perform rotating on-call duty and power restoration, including in inclement and extreme weather conditions.
• Perform construction and maintenance activities on overhead and underground construction lines under direct supervision.
• Occasionally lead the crew in the absence of the crew leader.
• Safely operate and maintain all assigned tools and equipment.
• Assist with direct power restoration and participate in Operations' on-call rotation as scheduled.
• Review and complete staking sheets, inspection reports, vehicle inspections, accident, near miss, injury, and incident reports.
• Perform Pole Top & Bucket Rescue emergencies in 5 minutes or less.
• Perform substation repair and maintenance.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent education.
• Completion of Electrical Line Worker Training Program.
• Current and valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with DOT Medical Card; must maintain a clean driving record.
• BLS/CPR certification.
• 5-7 years of lineman experience.
• Experience with operating and maintaining hand tools and heavy equipment.
• Experience with construction of overhead and underground electrical transmission lines.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, perform basic math, and use critical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication techniques.
• Ability to lift, push, and pull 50+ lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including hazardous and inclement weather.
• Must reside within a 30-minute commute of PEMC's HQ office (2500 Highway 86 S. Hillsborough, NC 27278).
