About the role

To assist the construction and service crews in providing adequate service to all customers.

Responsibilities

  • Use of standards to perform maintenance and general construction in overhead and underground work.
  • Must be proficient in climbing and handling self on a utility pole.
  • Basic knowledge in installing conductors in overhead and underground environments.
  • Familiar with proper grounding procedures for overhead and underground circuits.
  • Proficient in the use of bucket and derrick trucks and safety procedures associated with their use.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of company safety rules and safe work procedures.
  • Proper use and care of equipment, tools, and rope.
  • Know lines and equipment and patrol when necessary.
  • Know proper care of live line tools, handling, and storing protective equipment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum six months experience with line construction and maintenance.
  • Formal line technician training preferred.
  • Good mathematical, literacy, and communications skills.
  • Willing to respond to storm trouble and other emergencies after hours.
  • Must live within 35 miles of report location or be willing to relocate.
  • Valid driver’s license and certifiable under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
  • Must qualify within a reasonable period of time for a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes endorsement.
  • Successfully recommended from EEI test.

Work Conditions

  • Must like outdoor work and handle exposure to elements (hot, cold, rain, snow, etc.).
  • Frequent overtime and/or overnight travel.
  • Exposure to high voltage equipment.
  • Regular attendance is essential for satisfactory performance in this position.

Physical Effort

  • Must have good vision and hearing.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and frequently stoop, bend, push, pull, etc.
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to use hand and power tools.

Job Hazards

  • Exposure to traffic and limited exposure to high voltage equipment with very high current potential.
